Can we be told in advance about BOTM?

if RetroBike is all inclusive, why not just enter a budget(stupid term, almost all my high end stuff was bought on the cheap) bike any month and let the people that like it vote for it. with the amount of anti elite, anti American(south of canada), etc sentiment around here it shouldn't be that hard to get the recognition you feel you deserve

if you do it well, people should be able to notice. if not, something people like more will win

I totally agree with the sentiment of this. I vote for whatever floats my boat that month. Often it's bikes that others don't seem to appreciate, but that's democracy for you!

Don't agree with the anti-american slant though

There has been a bit of slagging of our friends from across the pond on this thread, does not seem to be to agressive but can bet you if it had been directed at the jocks we would have been pretty vocal about it.

Lets face it, anyone who thinks that all "pick your own nationality, colour, creed" are "pick your own negative charactoristic" is a bit of a knobber and prob best ignored in the first place.

Remember the whooharr when I gave a critique on all your shoddy BotM photography? Some took it as ant-Americanism, elitism, fantasm and god knows what but a good photo is worth everything yet many still dont bother to take anything decent.

If your midrange pants special looks good, people will vote, wasnt there a Kona that beat a Cunningham one month? If your C-26 looks like god had made a bicycle, then people will vote for that.

I was not expecting to win with my bike and I'm under strict orders from the missus' not to sell or part it out either.

So, take a bit more time and effort over your builds, no matter how budget they may be, if they are good enough to cath the eye, they will win or at least give the exotica something to worry about.

I would win hands down for 'cheap' bikes anyway.

Nope, just sayin' that you can chose to run the marathon, or you can chose to go for a jog. But dont email the race director a month before and ask to make the course easier

this comment is so far off the mark.

nobody is asking for the race to be changed, they are asking for either a bit more notice on the kind of race OR a variety of races so that maybe, just maybe, once a year they have a fighting chance.

I'm in a position where I have an 11 week old kid, a wife, bills to pay & new business startup costs which are making things very difficult indeed on the wage i currently work for BUT i still find some cash to fettle in my hobbies. shotgun cartridges & bullets aren't as cheap as they used to be, xbox games are nearing £50 a pop but luckily you can get some good bargains on here or on ebay to fuel the bike 'habit'. I do not have the disposable income to build a high end wall hanger / 'boutique' bike. its not that i don't want to, its just i'm not in a position to... YET!

what i'd like to see is a monthly thread where we can showcase our builds to our peers and get the warm fluffy feeling of someone giving good feedback on it regardless of it being a 'budget' build, we don't need banners, we don't need prizes what the 'average' retro builder seems to want (from my observation) is the kudos of having a bike others want to own.
