Brakes for Skyway Tuff IIs

Hi Chaps,

I'm not a BMX expert by any means, but I do have an old skool BMX.

It currently has a set of white Skyway Tuff IIs wheels, a Dia Compe MX 901 caliper and some standard white brake blocks.

The problem I am having is calibrating the brakes to make them effective.

Everything I try (and also my local cycle shop), results in the caliper moving and/or the brakes being ineffective.

Am I missing something here, in that I'm using the wrong equipment, or where the brakes back in the day this bad?!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Baron

Greets Baron,

I currently run several 80's BMX's with Tuff II's and on all my rides use Skyway Blocks, in my opinion never use other blocks with Nylon Mags!!!

Are you using Skyway Blocks? If so are the old (Original fit) if so they could be rock solid and not doing their job at all.

Hope this helps?

Jussa :)

Re:

If riding them, you could try a set of new school clear blocks - they help stopping very well / down side might be squeaking !!!
Toe in helps as well - this means the block is at a slight angle and is a bigger braking surface and if you get it right you can add strength to the caliper when braking
