Bottom bracket removal tips

It's not a drain hole as it looks like the mount hole for the cable guide.
Looks like a Marin ?

Stick bolts in the bottle/pulley holes*, take seatpost out every now and again.
As somehow it can still get in (headset/stay holes)

*I'm very guilty of this, tend never to bother and causes me all sorts of problems. I now have plastic bungs (bic pen style) or 3d printed threaded 'bolts'

Oh yes, forgot about cable guides. Almost all the cables on my bikes are top routed. Duh.

I agree about water getting in whatever. It's a weird chemical which we take as granted, but behaves in very many naughty ways...

I just assume it's going to get into a steel frame and make sure it's got a way of getting out, and spray the inside of frames with silicon spray.

Re:

Yes it's for the cable guide, I should have realised as I removed it the day before.

The bike is a 91 Team Marin. I got it from eBay as a little project. Needs quite a bit of work. Will do a build thread at some point.

Re:

It might seem like molesting the frame but putting in a drain hole while you have everything apart might be a good idea.

A hollow bolt might be better?, it allows airflow from moisture but makes it harder for water to enter too.
or the posh valve thing I have on one of my bikes, fitted as standard ;-)

Or this will have a rear facing seatbinder ? stick a bit of old innertube to cover slit top stop water spray seeping in if not using a rear mudguard.

Don't clean the bike without the holes being covered...
