Just read this months MBR (glad I didnt have to actually part with real money for it - thanks BotM!). They bought 4 rubbish old bikes from wherever and then panned them at every chance - no effort was made to get the bikes working properly, just a purchase and a ride.

1993 Stumpjumper

1996 Lavadome

1997 Pro-Flex 857

2011 Decathlon

Was it a dig at us lot or just them being daft and looking for an excuse to knock old bikes so they can flog new ones?

Given the bikes they bought and their complaints, they appeared to be lacking in basic riding and mechanical skills...

:P

not seen the article but i think they did well to get the 3 older bikes for £100 a piece

what were the comments? do i need to even ask?

Perhaps we should spend the equivalent on some new bikes and see how long they last!!

I'll bet my cat on the fact that a £100 retro bike will be a damn site better than a £100 argos special!

Stupid stupid MBR!!

Would that be the same MBR that insisted that 4" of travel and 27 speeds were necessary to be able to race XC, and then were very loathe to talk after Mountain Mayhem when my friends and I beat them by a whole lap using rigid singlespeeds?

You do realise that if you were also riding '4" of travel with 27 speeds' that you'd have beaten them by three laps don't you? ;)

That makes more sense. Pound for pound. Which Decathlon bike did they buy? 2011. The decent decathlon bikes are actually decent.
