Thing is, that factory complex is so massive and employs such a vast number of people that the normal statistics of society come into play. IIRC the suicide rate in that factory is no more or less than it would normally be in that country, its just that now they all work for the same employer so it looks like mass suicide in a horrible workplace.
re the OP, I recall the Sony Store in Bluewater was a bit like that. My wife and I used to be Sony only types back then, but they never seemed to stock anything I needed.
"Oh, no, we don't deal with the mobile phones" he said sneeringly. (before the days of Ericsson)
"No, we don't stock remotes for the Playstation, you'd be better off in a gaming shop"
