looking at work drying up for me soon,so thought i'd ask if anyone wants to start window cleaning, tatting (scrap) painting , landscaping etc.......in Droitwich / Worcester area..........my big down fall is i don't drive, but if you do and need an extra person to do your work or start up, have a think about it. My background is outdoor work mainly, forestry, gardening, but also foundry work, cycle shop mechanic /manager, oil and mineral research, big machine operator indoor , currently agency bin man...............so i am used to working hard with very few breaks if any ! Where has it got me ?........well here ! :D

Start your own business and be your own boss? i had a friend who lost his licence so he got into block paving...he'd order the materials to the house he was doing the work at, then turn up with his tools on the bus.

That's using your noggin :D

I was toying with the idea of daytime Yoga classes as i used to teach that, but you can never rely on people turning up regularly . Still if i end up with nothing......i can only gain i spose........had a gardening idea, but wrong time of year at mo.

yeah i had a friend who did landscape gardening but over the winter he would buy cars at auction, fix them up a bit and sell them.

Yoga sounds like a good idea if you could get hold of a hall or such like...get them hooked and keep them coming back. I like the idea of those military fitness style things they do in parks, basically get paid to chase people around a park being a dick to them...

You have no real overhead costs either, just a case of suckering some people into signing up, but post christmas when people want to get skinny that should be easy. Start selling them milkshakes on the side, as a get skinny quick meal.

Just something to think of in terms of the park idea.

I some times work with a joiner who gets the bus everywhere.
I also know a local gardener who has a trailer on his bike with a lawn mower and some shears in it.
When I worked in West london there was a guy with what looked like a custom built trike (kind of like a commercial rikshaw thing) and he did odd jobs he must have had legs of steel  .

Damn them! although in fairness even 1200 quid a year is really cheap rent. Here are the prices they charge the people they chase around the parks...

Direct Debit monthly fee
1 Class Per Week £26.00
Unlimited Classes £34.00
Under 21 & 60 plus (Unlimited) £20.00
Session Blocks
10 Sessions £100.00
20 Sessions £160.00
Joining Fee £35.00

say its 10 pound per customer per session even if you have only 5 people per day... thats 50 x 6 or 300 a week or 1200 a month so thats...14k a year. minus the 1200...12800. But the good thing is that you only have to give up a couple of hours a day to it, whilst in the mean time you could do something else on the side. If you managed to get a group of 10 people to come regularly you'd be making double that!

Although of course that's all theory and life is never really that easy.

im seriously thinking about setting my own thing up too, still pondering ideas.........good thread.

I have just started my own company, I am too fresh to be able to offer any real advice or sage thoughts but the driver for me was to be able to spend more time at home.

And so far (3 weeks in) its working alright.

Best of luck to you!
