Im not getting on with arma 3 too well. The myriad of buttons, settings rules  unwritten or otherwise, and the constant need for comms with 6 other players is flumoxing my fingers
So i though id give dayz a go given its not unlike altis life. I can keep the controls needed to a minimum

Needed to download arma2, though at 80% off its nothing at £6

Any tips ? hints ? places to get good military stuff :) through to video settings(GTX970)

Re:

I only ever played DayZ Standalone and I gave up on that because development basically stopped and the players only ever killed on sight rather than help each other.

Assuming that the Chenarus+ map in the ARMA mod it hasn't changed too much compared to the Standalone, you should be able to find good military gear at the camp near Balota, just below the south airstrip. Be sure to check the barracks at the airstrip too, they're on the southwest corner of the runway.

There are some other military camps too, but those are in the middle of the map and hard to point out without actually taking you there.

Balota is on the bottom of the map, to the left of Chernogorsk.

I might go for the standalone just as i think theres more spawned stuff about and more buildings you can actually enter :? Im running out of things like water, and ive yet to locate so much as a backpack.

You get one blooming elastoplast
Ill go back to the airstrip for more of a look. just too many zombies about and the last few times there theyve got me.
Cheers for that :D any help early on is much appreciated.

Doe it help to get a keyboard overlay for all the controls?

I should ask my bro, he is a big gamer.

I never thought of an overlay . Good idea :D Maybe the poverty method of little stickers  Although i should maybe bite the bullet and get a decent keyboard :? I know some you can remove buttons, and being left handed i could do with doing something.
Could you ask your brother if he's any recommendations on keyboards ? and if an 8 button mouse would be beneficial over 5

Can anybody translate the above before I report it as Russian spam?

A bit of a role playing game :? Makes a change from the usual team format.
225 km2 of real world data
You play a survivor, traversing the area. Basically trying to stay alive as long as possible, whihc isnt easy as just about everything is out to kill you.
You are more at risk of other survivors than the games zombie enemies. Basically because its role play, you can starve or die of thirst and to avoid doing so you might have to , if it comes to it.. Murder one of the other players, and steal his possessions, thus ensuring a bit more life for yourself.

Not that i would ever do such a thing

Based on cycling through London then?

I've witnessed it from afar :? How in hell more arent killed or seriously smashed up is beyond me. You see them filtering up the side of buses turning left

Times have move on, and quite an old thread to be opening up. But tbh im no real player of them these days. you'd be better joining Steam forum.

Besides, my dayz character is stuck in the middle of nowhere dying of thirst. Seems info is hard to get and the learning curve starts steeply, then goes into overhang.
A cup or tin can allows you to drink from streams wells, or you die of thirst. Having that info first off would have been handy.

Amazing game all the same, so big.
