After too many years away.....

MarkS

Old School Hero
Hi everyone, I'm Mark, trying to return to cycling after about 25 years away.

I say 'trying' as I am now disabled. I was a passenger in a car accident that left me as an above knee amputee - but at least I'm alive, which I shouldn't be really!

I have recently brought an old Hercules 1950's bike, that has a Ken Rogers trike conversion fitted. Being a steel bike, it is very heavy. While I would like a beautiful alloy Longstaff, the cost, along with not really knowing if I can physically manage to ride very far, means I'm trying to do something as cheap as possible to begin with (and being out of work doesn't help).

So far, I have purchased some second hand drop bars, 1980's levers, down tube shifters, a Biopace oval chainset, and have dug out my 1980's Brookes B17 saddle. Changed the cotterpins chainset to a sealed cotterless. Currently stripping the frame back, and a lick of paint to start with.

There are some bits on this that might be of use to someone, a Benelx rod shifter, albeit the outside part of the cage is missing! What I've been told is a 1940's front hub brake, Milremo cranks, not sure if it is a Milremo chainset as well.

Found the site by accident, but will stay around, as thus forum is bringing so many memories back. I used to time trial, had a Freddie Grubb bike once upon a time, and have loved dusting the spanners off as I rebuild this trike with some newer lighter components.

Will provide updates as I get on!

Mark

Re:

Hi Mark! Looks like a good project. Just seen a trike conversion kit on good old ebay. Has Dunlop special lightweight rims with it too, 27 x 1 1/4.
Great you are able to still ride. Seen a few trikes about on here.
Have fun tinkering :)

Welcome back aboard and regardless of anything else, much respect for taking on a trike restoration :)
Best of luck with it, make sure to keep us updated.
