I think I have found a decent wheel builder ,I had a look at reviews etc and he appears competent. So at some point I'll make contact and take it from there.
Appreciate all your help guys. Even though I'm not going to try myself on this occasion, you've all given me a lot of information and a better understanding of what's involved.

Just a thought. Whilst the online spoke calculators are good for the modern stuff how about we start a thread on here for spoke lengths on older rim/hub combos ?.
