A couple of headset questions

Will be installing a CK Nothreadset on my upcoming build.

Was mooching around eBay and found a CK compatible split type of crown base which supposedly helps make the installation a whole lot easier as it does away with the need for a dedicate crown race setting tool. Here is the item;

I would like to add I am not looking at it because it is Ti but as something that might make getting my bike built up a little easier as I will be building it myself and I don't have a dedicated crown race setting tool.

Is anyone using one and any comments would be apreciated or is it just a bit gimmicky.

Also I need to fit the cups and whilst I've got away with something heavy and a chunk of wood in the past :wink: , I don't want to resort to the same in this case, especially as it is my first CK.

I found a cheap bit of kit on eBay again that seems like it'll do the trick without getting a hugely exspensive proper jobby. Here is the item; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110761507024? ... 1438.l2649

Again, has anyone used one and any comments would be apreciated or is it again just a bit gimmicky.

Thanks and cheers

the headset press and similar is widely used here i believe ,although many have also made their own to a similar design with bits grom b and q and the like.

for setting crown races you can just use a piece of plastic pipe of the right size, or buy a tool like this for a few quid more you can then keep forever

but then you may also need a crown race splitting tool

seems to be a good price for a ti race though

a standard Chris King one will set you back £15 and for a ti CK one your looking at £30

in saying all that i use the block and hammer method and teeny screw drivers to set a race, but when i fitted a brand new CK to a bike i let the bike shop do it :oops: :oops: :oops:
