'90 Stumpjumper Comp framebuild

Made a Pepsi-can shim so I can use my 26.8mm seatpost. Sheldon Brown was right. The 91 Comp has a 27mm post.

Bar tape arrived, so had to test the colour. Notice the golden seatclamp.

I also have the chain, and a black seatclamp:

This means I have everything to make this a riding bicycle, at least a beta version.
The crank and BB will be changed out for new parts once I confirm the chainline and chainring size necessary (currently 34t x 18t)
Saddle and seatpost will be different pieces as well.

I have the correct spacers to dish and tension the rear wheel, finally 😃
So the coming days, there should be progress. And hopefully a testride.

These are the tyres I originally bought for this build, back when I just received the frame:

Ohh those look wide
Very interesting
They're VEE tire co - Mission in 2.1 size.
Fell in love with the looks on Amazon and bought them over 2 years ago 🤐
However, I'm having second thoughts on going knobbly on this build since seeing the street tyres installed as it sits now.

I suppose it won't hurt swapping them to see the result. They're currently on a bianchi Celeste MTB from 2000 and look fabulous 👌

I should really present my bikes in a seperate thread, the other 4 mtb's are all 98+

Will you keep the grey colour on the frame?
Love how it is all coming together.

These Mission tyres are very light rolling yet nice and plushy. I really love them and I think they would look nice on there.

Are you sure about the yellow bartape? Not that it looks bad but I'm not able to keep the light colours looking nice for even a short time.

Aha, you have these tyres too. Great to hear you like them. I ran 3km's on them, found them quite noisy.
But to be fair, the Bianchi's rims are 17mm internal diameter, so they were bulging.

The current colour is a thick layer of primer, it will need sanding and perhaps some bondo in places. I did grind away a substantial amount of fixtures and brake related parts, so those spots require extra attention.

I started building the bike in my head since I got it, so here are 2 possible colour choices, with a huge chance I downloaded them from RB years ago;

Perhaps the last one is the reason I went yellow on the bar tape? 🧐
In any case, I find bar tape rather expendable at a fiver a set. So I'm just gonne follow my initial plan. (Installed white on my Raleigh, terrible!)

I keep changing bars & stems on my road KHS, third set on its way (80mm + 400mm bar)
In these pics is the 100mm stem 380mm bar, these will be replaced with the 80mm stem (as you mentioned before) and 380mm bar currently on my road bike.

If you're wondering: the bar shape is hard to pair with a quill stem, so I always buy another stem with a new bar so I don't need to 'unpair' the previous set, if that makes sense.😆

I like the orangy red of that surly but I guess the grey/silver will look better with yellow bartape 🤔

I'm curious how the bike will look when it is finished.

I never noticed that the Missions are noisy, but I usually ride on rougher studded tyres that are even louder on asphalt, so maybe that's why.
