81 mk5 Carlton Pro, all Japanese no shimano build, is now a 78 in silver 😏.

This is my second mk5, still own a 79 in silver, this one came up for sale through the Carlton Facebook group and as I'd just sold a frame and always said I'd have another I snapped it up. The paint has rust spiders and damage, and in my opinion the colour doesn't carry patina well but I thought I'd build up as is, sort the spec then custom paint it. The components came from the Raleigh I'd sold...

So this is the initial build, suntour mostly with sakae bars, stem and post, kashimax saddle and mks pedals. The wheels are campag hubbed for now, but I have some sakae hubs I'd love to use once I can find some araya rims, for the full Japanese no shimano build I desire. The brakes were nos from the good old USA, and just needed the rotten hoods removing. Tyres are Michelin at the mo but will be replaced with panaracer.

I like that, nice machine, Carltons from that period are right up my alley and that's usually what I do, build them up with what I intend to use component wise, try them for a bit and then strip them down again ready for paint.

So... After this popped up on ebay and was won for what I think is a bargain price, the polar blue frame was sold on and the build will commence on this incredibly clean one owner frame, it really is like new, with only marks from components to show its been used. Eventually my 79 version will get a custom repaint.
