50 shades of red. 97 Kona Kula

Mid seasons in full next years regalia would be a first for me but you never know! It is very odd for sure. I've got a few BITD magazine shots of these so let me check them to see if there are any differing cable shots. Still the best colour schema and graphics they ever did so uber cool in my book :-)

It'll never be ready for a close-up without a respray though. It's all about riding them for me so not that bothered as long as it works.

Unless the frame is bare , and therefore corroding , I don't see the point in resprays for a mountain bike . I normally just touch up chips to protect the frame . I have seen rusty/patina looking bikes I've seen somewhere here before , and I think they look 8) but can't get hold of pictures of 'em now . Wonder how long they would last though .

FWIW.

Same model year. Would have left with Cantis and not Vs. and in the colour you have, it was the precursor to the new model.

Regarding aluminum hard tails, top of the production line only bettered by the US made KU.

Strange your's doesn't have a rear brake cable stop, first time I've seen that :?

Lookin' good HM, lookin' good 8)

I'm thinking its a mid season. its also got downtube cables. Which points to 1996 with a dog collar but its clearly in 1997 paint/decals/forks in the catalogue .

and as for quality level.. check out the m950 XTR rear mech in the brochure ;)

My lavadome is identical senario in that year. its all 1996 bar the paint which is 1997.

it shjould end up fairly similar to this with the XT V brakes, a flatter 120ish mm (than current) stem in silver maybe, and a nasty selle XO saddle that suits my rear.

Why thank you. Just waiting for some spacers before i give it a try and then trim the steerer.

Me Mum won't let me mend in the kitchen i gotta fix it in the gardin!
