We had ours done about two years ago.

I ‘think’ we got the basic package (may have even been on a deal) for about £60. It included the scan and some A4 prints. We upgraded (on the day) and also got the picture disk for about another £10 (again from memory) which contained just over 50 photos.

The place we had it done was very good / clean / trendy / professional etc and was actually run as a business by a group of (still working) midwifes and sonographers (however you spell it ), so they are still checking for issues etc rather than just impressing you with the technology – The same checks as the hospital but also counting fingers and toes etc :D

The room had a comfy bed etc and a large flat screen on the wall so it’s easy for your misses to see what’s going on. The noises / heartbeat etc were run through speakers in the room. Nicely decorated, dimmed light etc – quite emotional actually … 8)

We had it done to find the sex as they couldn’t tell us for sure at the 20 week scan. After having it done I would defo have it done again (on the basic package), I wouldn’t pay for the DVD (but that wont be your choice will it ;-)) My reason ? The DVD is just a recording of what you see. As you will know from the standard scans – a lot of what you see is blurry / in and out of focus while they find the bits they want to see. When they find these bits and set the focus they are constantly taking screen shots, these are the images you get on the picture disk :D

Other than having my partners name blanked off and being uploaded to photobucket the images you see are exactly has they supplied us on the DVD, they also supplied us a trace of the heartbeat when they did the check in that area :D

Hope this helps :D

Agreed with all of that - I think we went to the same place (Take A Peek, in St Helens).

We had one done for our first but as perhaps expected didn't get round to it for our second. It was quite good actually, nice to have. Think we must have paid around a ton, certainly worth it for £60, esp if the OH is pushing for it....

This raised a chuckle. If someone suggested to me they were going to 'Take A Peek' in St Helens I wouldn't necessarily expect they would be getting a 4D scan done.

cheers for the help
i still find them quite odd looking but i may only ever have one opportunity so looking at it that way
the more i look at your pics though the more awesome i think it is!
no way i would pay £175 for it though

£65 is reasonable but is far, may go with family. just enquiring at the moment, have 2 or so weeks before the ideal dates (24-32weeks?)
is it better to go sooner or later?

all the reviews seem to be good as are yours

thanks for the tip on the dvd, but my understanding was that it was a video (maybe different per place)
but as you will be in and out of focus etc. unless of course they do just hold it there for dvd purposes

there is another place baby skan in truro i think which is about an hour away again and their basic package is £99, a few prints and dvd.

would be good to see what its upto  as we can feel it and its always doing something  not finding out the sex though - OH NO!

I'm pretty sure I went to the same place as WD.

Problem is, I've had pleennnttyy of sleepless nights since then, so it's something of a haze.

I'm fairly sure we got a video, as well as images / stills.

For the life of me, though, there's no way I can remember what we decided to do about packages and prices, though. I do remember getting a DVD, and I'm sure it had video on (as I made some copies for family) - I seem to recall we could opt for the stills we wanted to keep / have on the disk.

we declined the opportunity to have one done - in short it would freak me out! for me and the missus (she's a vet nurse and there is a lot of medical in my side of the family too) seeing things on the normal 20 week scan like the chambers of the heart going, seeing the heart valves working, x-sections of the spine etc. was fascinating, probably more so than seeing an E.T-esque creature! the little bugger held his hand above his head though so on the upper body shot they printed it looks like he's got a huge hole in his forehead!

i'd say its all personal opinion. if there was a massive benefit medically then i'm pretty sure they would be offered as standard practice but the issue you do have is you don't want to turn around in a couple of years and regret not doing it.
