Can't decide between crud guards or proper full length mudguards.

Rack fitted. Hoping it might be a reasonably effective alternative to a rear mudguard, too. It's pissing it down all weekend so maybe I'll find out tomorrow.

Out and about earlier today. Well pleased with how this has turned out. Definitely the most successful drop bar/touring spec MTB build I've done and I've done a few now... it's light for what it is and although it's not super fast feeling it's very light-footed and nimble feeling. Comfy but lively. A nice bike for cycling around on mixed terrain. The Mtn Rack and Crud Catcher seem to be doing a decent job of keeping the worst of the weather off my legs too so I might do without full length mudguards for the time being.

Unfortunately the original front wheel is also toast as it happens. There's a very slightly flared section of the rim due to historic damage which is causing nasty pulsing of the front brake. It's an odd one as it didn't seem too bad in the truing stand but the brakes are really grabbing. I think I'll build a new front wheel to match the rear.

I like bike.

New front wheel is laced up. Needs bearings put back together and trued up. A few jobs on the do-do list still but nothing stopping me from riding it.

Really nice comfy unhurried thing is this.

Yep, to tell the truth I'm thinking about reverting to straight bars but enjoying it as it is for the time being.

Finished building the new front wheel today and swapped it round. Also swapped the saddle again as the Brooks has found a more appropriate home. Thought I'd try a new Spa Navigator for £18. Not sure how comfy I'm going to find it but can't fault the quality at the price. For the current use the original Flite was a bit unforgiving - the brooks was better... not sure what the perfect saddle is.

Looks a great bike that, i used my 93 Clockwork with drops for many years, and liked the feel of it. scenic view of Bishopsteignton :cool:

Yeah... they're great bikes - and very versatile. I've got 3 and can't bring myself to part with any of them.

In fact, the one you've got is the only one I've let go of and I regret it! Saying that, it was kind of too nice and original... I'm always drawn to well worn examples I can use & abuse without guilt.

This one is pretty much perfect now mechanically. Nice thing to ride. Drops feel good as you say and it's still pretty easy to chuck about.
