frame nr 20T0496209
I think the frame number can be broken down as follows?

20T - 20" frame
0496 - build April 1996
6209 - serial number

yup. 20" T = Attitude from April 96, frame no. 209.

April 96 surprises me as it is a 97 paint. does it have a press-fit bottom bracket or the normal threaded? how does the cable exit on the top tube look like? formed into the frame like the inlet or like this one?

it's 97, because of the seatpost clamp, the bottom bracket (setup in catalog with xtr octalink!)

I' m thinking about buying one, too. nice to ride through the winter :)

yes, seat post clamp, cable outlet style, missing brake cable bridge, threaded bb shell are all 97 model features. i am just surprised that they have built such frames already that early in 96. usually production of the new model year started after the summer break of the preceding year.

judging from the original pics only it could have been a pre-Trek Attitude frame with cut-off seat post clamp and seat stay bridge and the press-fit bb shell could have been threaded later but the cable outlet style is impossible to retro-fit.

cool, i learned something new ;) well, maybe the frame builder picked the wrong stamp for the month, who knows... not really important anyways...

two question still there:
the painting on the fork isn't genuine, is it? (if it's the same as on the maarktplaats it's not)

the bartmanbrake was black with gold decals....

is this really a bartman?
could you please take a photo of the brakelever?!

(and one question OT for you, carsten: does my nightstorm quantum pro also wear an autogram by his painter? on normal mtb-frames there are always the autograms... i haven't found it , yet)

I'll post some more pics later, but you might be right on the brakes here

Sorry, brakes are Johnny T's (prior to the TOMAC edition)
Forks are painted as this....

Thought all the Trek production models had replaceable mech hangers?

only from 99 on. 97 and 98 Attitudes were slightly modified pre-Trek Pulse frames and 97 and 98 Adroits were slightly modified pre-Trek Attitude frames. modifications were seperate seat post clamp instead of the welded-on, threaded bottom bracket shell instead of press-fit bb and V-brake ready cable outlet on the top tube.

for the 99 year the attitudes and adroits changed more. replaceable der hangers, disc brake tabs on the left chain stay, geometry adjusted for 70-80mm forks. the attitudes got the barrel shaped head tube and (only for 99) external cable routing.
