1995 *Cracked*Sunn Vertik - repair..

Got this stripped down and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is far too far gone to salvage sadly..
Upside on this one is that I’ve gone back to the seller, armed with the knowledge that they knew it was cracked (Thanks Dom ), and got a full refund through eBay.
So, free load of parts - some of it XT, plenty of useful bits.

Result mate. Glad you ended up with for free as they definitely knew as I have the messages on eBay from them.

Thread resurrection! Decided to have a go at welding this, nothing ventured nothing gained..

Drilled out the end of the crack, hopefully this will stop it from continuing to crack?

Need to dress the welds back now and tidy it up, hopefully it’ll hold. It seems strong - I put a wooden broom handle through the bottom bracket and tried to pry it but it wouldn’t budge..

Guilty as charged..
I know it should be tigged but I don’t have one of those and I’m not going to throw money at it getting it done at a welders. Let’s face it - if the frames cracked there like that, where else is it going to fail?
It’s never going to be thrown at trails again in its life, at best it’ll be a s/s cruiser or similar. I was just sad to see it in my scrap pile so thought I’d have a crack at it.

Understood…. I’d have tig’d it for you if you could send it to Dorset. The problem with cracks like that is that they really need more serious repair like an internal sleeve or similar. And that’s not practical to add.

I’d have probably brazed it actually and built up the bb area at the same time.
