1995 *Cracked*Sunn Vertik - repair..

This cropped up on eBay and the buyer agreed to hold it for me until i was passing (for work).
I like a chrome frame and these Sunn’s have decent geo and kit too.
There’s a fair bit of XT parts on it already, it all needs going over and making nice again. I’ll start with a thorough polish of the frame and then go from there. I think the horrible yellow bars and Bmx style stem will be the first things to go, probably followed by the the Sachs grip shifts (I just don’t like grip shifters).
Might be a slow burner this one but I’m looking forward to making this pretty again..

If it was from Grantham from A new build house in a stereotypical middle class road ont he right.

I bought another tatty bike and made a offer on it. They turned my offer down and then messaged to say I could have it. But it was a fair drive so was waiting for another bike nearby. They then messaged to say it was cracked.

That’s the one, cheeky buggers.. I’ll have a look over it and see. Not too bothered if it is - didn’t pay much for it, there’s enough bits on it if it’s toast..

It was worth buying for the XT bits anyway which was my plan so you won’t lose.

Just didn’t want you polishing for hours to then find out. Been there and done that before.

Cheers, yup - you were right, cracked around the bb and along to the down tube. Will post a pic when it’s light.
I’ll salvage what I can off it, but I might have a go at welding the frame, see if I can save it in one shape or form.

Got this stripped down and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is far too far gone to salvage sadly..
Upside on this one is that I’ve gone back to the seller, armed with the knowledge that they knew it was cracked (Thanks Dom ), and got a full refund through eBay.
So, free load of parts - some of it XT, plenty of useful bits.

wow, that is some crack, pretty heavy landing by he looks of it, surprised they did not want the bike back though.

Well, they did say return it initially - but it would have been a 3hr round trip..
