Right then, I've indexed the gears, sorted the brakes, tightened up the spokes and checked everything, and had a very quick spin. After an all too brief whizz ( to keep the tyres looking new until next Sunday) I can say that this is a LOVELY little bike. Really light on it's feet and responsive. I love it. I don't know how it will handle the rough stuff yet, and may do a further post after taking it off road, but for now, short of a chainstay protector ( looking for an NOS or close XT Sharkfin for it ) I am calling the bike done.
As you can see I went for the 91-92 look on this 94 machine simply because it was less work/expensive to do.

As I have said before I'll probably eventually put a shorter stem and even some slightly wider risers on for comfy all day pootling, but you can tell when you get on her that she's a racer
