1987 Marin... Done or not? Comments welcome.

looks great! personally, the stripes on the rear triangle seem a little incongruous, if it were mine, i would probably run her with just the black and orange paint scheme you have.

and oh yeah..are the bars meant to be droopy? or is it just the way you prefer them

is that a designed by joe murray sticker? if it is i never knew he did work for marin too.

He actually used to race for them on a Merlin built Titanium Marin in the mid-eighties.

Thanks so much guys, I guess I'm too critical of my own work-I started to wonder if it looked better in battleship gray! I was mostly worried the striping made it look too 'roadie'.

I've seen a few early Marins with a Joe Murray sticker-I saved the originals, at some point I'd like to get that one redone and find a proper pink 'Tange MTB' tubing decal for it. The red Marin head badge decal (and the one on the seat tube) were actually black and transparent-I cut out a square of red vinyl and laid the black decal over it. The yellow on the fork and bars is actually a blend of translucent red and solid yellow powder, it looked a bit more orange before it went in the oven, but I still like the color.

jamabikes, good idea about the seat, and amberwalls of some sort are a must-I wish Maxxis made an amber 2.5 Hookworm.. those tires rock.

sylus-great advice  and well put! Now I have to pull a few parts off to clearcoat, but at least I won't be second guessing.

I think that WD Pro on here has those Tange decals for sale

Thanks for the comments guys. I was experimenting with the drop rotation on the bars, it was neat for a bit but overall not a comfortable way to ride. Anyone have any tire suggestions? I'd like to run a big slick or semi-slick but I never see them in amberwall-I'm thinking Maxxis Hookworms or similar, but I'll lose the retro feel.

I also did this '87 Fat -more like you what merckx and michael mentioned, and it does look more purposeful. I still think the Marin needs something to tie the front and back together, when viewed in person, 'incongruous' is exactly the right word.

That rear mech looks like some of those odd photos you see when somebody has broken their leg and it's off pointing at wierd angles.

It doesn't have a stop to keep it 'sprung', without a chain or off the bike it will do that-it works just fine, I put it back on after I coated it....
