Re:
According to the first in first out rule I should be leaving this alone but I can't resist which is hopefully a good sign that I'll actually ride it.
Started taking it apart and cleaning up. Cosmetic damage to the frame aside, it's actually all in OK condition and cleaning up nicely. Headset was notchy and stiff but very tight so hopefully will be smooth enough with new grease and bearings. Compared to a budget Tange it's pretty poor quality really but I'm resisting the urge to spend out on upgrades. Still, shows how far some things have come - far eastern manufacture of "budget" components was a game changer for the bike industry.
The frame however, is lovely. Really neat up close, nice forged Suntour drop-outs and fork ends. The GB bars and stem are also really nicely made. And I have a soft spot for Weinmann centre pulls - lovely.
The rack is surprisingly heavy (as well as flexy) so I'm going to put an alloy Blackburn one on. Sorry Peachy.
Can't decide re the gears. The 6 speed 105 shifters below keep winking at me. And the cage on the fitted Suntour appears wonky - might be the hanger though so I'll check alignment before condemning it...
