Well in K, what a performance, you absolutely mullered that!
Managed 5 laps myself, which was the target I'd set, so happy enough. Real effort to convince myself to go out again after lap 4, needed to resort to energy food (poke of chips slathered in salt, vinegar and broon sauce) before I felt up to it.
Did the first lap on the old Rockhopper - happy to say it coped with it really well. Wouldn't have fancied doing the whole day on it though, and switched to the Stumpjumper after that. I'd taken the gears off the Moho and popped those on instead of the single-speed - really glad I did, much more climbing than I was expecting, and really suffered from cramp from lap 3 onwards. Nothing worse than being unable to freewheel because if you do your legs seize up. Ridiculous.
Course was very good, much better than when we did it 4 years ago, although that horrible never ending fire-road climb on the first part of the lap was still there. The one off-piste section didn't cut up too badly either, still rideable at the end. Weather was good too, although not as nice as the forecast. Mostly overcast, didn't see the sun much at all, was a bit drizzly at the start of the race and there was maybe a 10 minute shower in the afternoon.
Bumped into rumble on the club roost first two laps, but didn't see him after that. Saw one poor bugger stretchered off the mountain, all neck-braced up. And another sitting looking dazed holding his shoulder - the top part of the course was not all that technical, but was fast and rocky - easy to get carried away, but come off and it was going to hurt. Managed to get through the whole day without hurting myself, only came off once, landing in a nice soft bog on lap 1 after going too slow on boulder drop.
Radek - you were missed. I think you would have devoured all the climbing on the course, would have loved to see how many laps you would have managed. Really sorry about the car - main thing is you (and your bike) are both OK.
