What year is this Marin? ( U-Brake )

It is a bit of a frankenbike - been repainted and rebadged. Not 100% sure it is a pine mountain either despite what the stickers say. U brake mounted on the BB shell would be 88 possibly 89. 90 onwards were all cantis. Zolatone 90 was light grey, 91 dark grey. Those look to be 91 decals. Stem is...

    Identify bar ends and skewers?

Skewers - they were mass produced, made to look like Ringle but available in bike shops fairly cheaply. No brand as such, repackaged by many. Bar ends are the same, Onza copies (but with enough difference to not breach any copyrights)

I committed a 'Pace' capital sin yesterday

Made by Mountain Equipment/Ron Hill so not a capital Pace crime. I was expecting you to say you'd put not-Pace forks on a square framed Pace, or risers and bar ends on.

    Inline qr barrel adjuster

Re: To be brutally honest, that seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Correctly set up Vs, cantis or road calipers shouldn't need an extra tensioner in the brake system. If they were of great benefit I'd expect to see them being used in the pro-peloton where superfast wheel...

FINISHED! - More or Less NOS Pace RC200 F1

Re: New project - More or Less NOS Pace RC200 F1 Just caught up with this thread. Really sweet frame - nice find. USE bars and bar ends - never seen red bar ends! Both of my USE bars have black stubby bar ends. Got a few other pairs of USE bar ends, a pair of ski bends in black, and another...

    Question: USE and PACE

Re: Pace changed the seat post clamp from f6 onwards and made a shim for narrower seatposts available. I run a USE ti seatpost in my f8 with a Pace shim. Have done since I bought it new in 2002.

    Ti bolts and bearings?

Re: Found the link for the 'excellent' quality ti bolts. I assume you don't want the link for the cheese/ti hybrid ones? http://www.nylonalloys.co.uk/en/catalog/alloys/titanium In your face age related deteriorating memory!

    Ti bolts and bearings?

Re: Ti bolts can be very hit and miss. Those I have bought from a 'bike' website were awful quality. The ones I bought, some time ago, from a specialist fasteners company are absolutely brilliant. They didn't list prices online as they changed daily, based on commodity prices. Comparing the...

What be this free mystery machine then?

Re: Any frame number? Might give some clues (or not). Pretty sure it a generic frame knocked out en masse, badged up by local shops.

    Ti bolts

Re: Some years back I replaced the bolts on my Pace with ti. Also a few of the biggest bolts on my good road bike. You get what you pay for! All of the bolts from my Pace came from a fastening dealer in London, price varied daily due to the commodity price. They are head and shoulders above the...

    Prescription lenses for cycling shades

Re: I have a couple of options. 1. Rudy Project rx insert. Use mine with Rydon frame. Allows interchangeable lenses to be used. Plus I got my optician to glaze them (this gets over the pupil distance measurement, which is not part of the prescription, some big chains get really @rsey with you...

    XT v-brake spacers

Re: To be honest I think you will have to find a donor pair of levers. Alternatively, if you have one you could make some out of green stuff (epoxy resin that modellers use, blue and yellow playdough type stuff that mix's together and will set hard).

Naughty Naughty Halfords on older stuff.

Re: Shaun Keavney (6music breakfast DJ) had a mahoosive rant about them a few months back. He wanted some lights for his bike. They were dearer instore than online, from the same shop.

Good retro Spuds for iffy knees

I've got dodgy knees. I ran the original DX SPDs then I started noticing some extra grief. Switched to Time A FACe, run them in various versions ever since (and Espressos on my road bikes) not had any extra pain since making the switch. If you go for the square bodied APACe their design hasn't...
