What mountain bikes did you own BITD?

My first bike was a Wheeler 313 in neon yellow. It had a Shimano gs200 groupset at first. But most parts like the deraileurs and hubs I had to swap quite soon for LX and XT - whatever was available used at that time. Don't know where that bike went. I think my parents gave that bike away a few...

Frame id needed.. painted over Titanium? Team USA. Nice!

There only were 5 companies in the early 90ties that were able to make titanium frames, I think. They were Sandvik, Lightspeed, Merlin and Russian company who's name escapes me r.n. And then the (Swiss?) company Revel but they were very niche and did not produce frames for different brands. So...

    Full SUS month anyone? :D

What's the late 90s steel frame of choice?

I my head the steel frames very much went out of fashion at that time frame. Alloy and full suspension was all the rage for high end bikes. The demand for steel frames petered out, so the manufacturers basically stopped making high end steel frames. There might have been some niche brands but I...

Anyone have details on how the Avocet 30 cyclocomputer magnet ring works?

360 ohms might be fine. Can you measure a very low voltage if you spin the wheel? In millivolt AC

Anyone have details on how the Avocet 30 cyclocomputer magnet ring works?

Well, not sure. As we don't know the specs. If it is a coil it should at least not be open circuit. I would suspect 1 or 2 ohms. Are you sure that ring was a magnet though? Might be a metal tooth ring, non magnetic. Like they are used in automotive ABS sensors.

Anyone have details on how the Avocet 30 cyclocomputer magnet ring works?

If that sensor is a coil (and not a hall effect sensor) - did you measure the resistance yet?

    1991 "Paramount" PDG-70 build

Ah well. Me thinks the brake levers look way better without the rubber. :D

That is really good looking indeed.

    The lite age

The bike looks great! Especially the paint and the Campa parts. Except the brake lever-trigger combo. Those are comically ugly still. They look like they belong on a kids bike. I do not understand how Campa was able to ruin those parts so thoroughly. I mean - the color doesn't fit their own...

BoTM Bike of The Month September 2025 - now taking entries

Didn't think a few lines of introduction would do any harm. On the contrary. Just a bike name and two pics seem quite boring to me. Not much incentive to even look into this thread if there is no text to introduce the bikes. Me personally, I find the storys around the bikes just as important as...

    Spinergy Spox Wheels thoughts...

I have a set of these, too. Mine had the rims develop cracks around the spoke holes. And the back hub separated because the glue between the carbon and the Aluminium gave. Took me 2 years to find a suitable new rim. And one year to find those special spoke tools. The tools are made from...
