9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

Ok. So I indeed misunderstood your question. I never had the problem, that a 8spd chain would rub on the neighboring crank chainrings. Although that may be due to me usually not using the full "range" of gears. I tend to avoid the "extremes" like smallest front to smallest rear. I do remember...

9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

Why did you want to use a 9spd chain on a 7spd setup? If everything other than the crank is 7spd, even the cassette, just use a 7/8spd chain and be happy. 7spd cassette+ 9spd chain is not a good match. Except you have 9spd chain already on the shelf, but don't have the 20 quid to buy a new...

9 Speed Crank Set on a 7 Speed front Derailleur.

7/8 speed chain on a 9 speed set is no good. Because the 8spd chain is slightly thicker than 9spd. It works, but the shifting quality is bad. The front derailleur is no problem though. I had M732 XT type front and rear derailleurs paired with a 9speed cassette+chain and M960 (XTR 9spd) STI set...

Why do we want rare, complicated stuff?! Amp forks kupput

Oh, I forgot. Did you write, what version of fork you have? The one shown above or the older version with just one spring inside the parallelogram? I somehow thought you had the latter. Shortening a coil doesn't change the stiffness. It just reduces the travel. Unless it's a progressive spring...

Get yourself just about any cheap rear coilover shock, cut to length and you're golden.

GT RTS rocker pivots play or no play

The rocker has press in ball bearings. Close to no play, if they are new. But you can swap them. Iirc they are standard parts that are also used in Rollerblade wheels. Or was it skateboards?

Well, about history. One of those frames has a bit of history, if I remember correctly. Some kind of speed record was made with it. Or was it an attempt? But they "hid" the frame in a aerodynamic (yellow) fiberglass shell. I remember seeing the original bike at a private collection in Germany...

It is called "degree FS", I think. 9 or 10, not sure. The whole rear end kinematic reminds me very much of a GT RTS. Its a single pivot point and a rocker arm to link the swingarm to the dampener. Even has the "brake stud". I have a RTS myself. I don't really like the ride, because the pedal...

*Pulling up a chair* Nice assortment of levers and doodabs underneath the bb. I love that early suspension stuff. And it's a good looking bike, also.

More boing for the buck! Free Scott Unitrack DH - Welding done!

It's already 2024?? Time to continue on this project.. Before the paint cans go bad.. As I hate sanding and stuff, I thought I'd make me some kind of powertool to speed up the process. Also I was kind of inspired by Paul Brodies powerfile that he presented on his channel. I proudly present...

Time to replace my canti studs? Advice needed

So there actually is someone who likes the "self energizing" brakes? 😁

Time to replace my canti studs? Advice needed

I'd go for a nice set of Magura brakes. If you can cope with the looks, they are the best brakes hands down imo. The early hydrostops might even have the correct vintage. A set of faded but working racelines cost 50 Euro here in Germany and I think it's well worth it. Other than that, I don't...
