Why do we want rare, complicated stuff?! Amp forks kupput

Oh, I forgot. Did you write, what version of fork you have? The one shown above or the older version with just one spring inside the parallelogram? I somehow thought you had the latter. Shortening a coil doesn't change the stiffness. It just reduces the travel. Unless it's a progressive spring...

Get yourself just about any cheap rear coilover shock, cut to length and you're golden.

GT RTS rocker pivots play or no play

The rocker has press in ball bearings. Close to no play, if they are new. But you can swap them. Iirc they are standard parts that are also used in Rollerblade wheels. Or was it skateboards?

    Kastle full suspension

Ah, there it is. So I wasn't wrong.

    Kastle full suspension

Well, about history. One of those frames has a bit of history, if I remember correctly. Some kind of speed record was made with it. Or was it an attempt? But they "hid" the frame in a aerodynamic (yellow) fiberglass shell. I remember seeing the original bike at a private collection in Germany...

    Kastle full suspension

It is called "degree FS", I think. 9 or 10, not sure. The whole rear end kinematic reminds me very much of a GT RTS. Its a single pivot point and a rocker arm to link the swingarm to the dampener. Even has the "brake stud". I have a RTS myself. I don't really like the ride, because the pedal...

    Kastle full suspension

*Pulling up a chair* Nice assortment of levers and doodabs underneath the bb. I love that early suspension stuff. And it's a good looking bike, also.

More boing for the buck! Free Scott Unitrack DH - Welding done!

It's already 2024?? Time to continue on this project.. Before the paint cans go bad.. As I hate sanding and stuff, I thought I'd make me some kind of powertool to speed up the process. Also I was kind of inspired by Paul Brodies powerfile that he presented on his channel. I proudly present...

Time to replace my canti studs? Advice needed

So there actually is someone who likes the "self energizing" brakes? 😁

Time to replace my canti studs? Advice needed

I'd go for a nice set of Magura brakes. If you can cope with the looks, they are the best brakes hands down imo. The early hydrostops might even have the correct vintage. A set of faded but working racelines cost 50 Euro here in Germany and I think it's well worth it. Other than that, I don't...

    1996 GT LTS-2

In my frame the bolt, that is holding the bushing is sliding through those threads cleanly, too. I tried different sizes of bolts to fit into that thread, but it seems, it is not metric. I don't have my imperial bolt collection at hand atm, so.. M10 is kind of starting and is enough to pull mine...

Nah. I'll try and check tonight.

Maybe the thread is bigger than that bolt you have?

    1996 GT LTS-2

One of the cones has a thread. You can use a bolt to pull that cone out. If it is seized, you can try and thread the bolt in from the opposite side, push or even us a hammer. The polishing is... well.. let's say I got distracted :D

Specialized FSX Future Shock Fork /RS Mag 21 Service

I had that problem with my fsx staying in the down position. The problem was one of the o-rings being too thick and "sealing" the "upper part" of the fork from the lower part. Kind of hard to describe. The air gets trapped between the stanchion and the lowers but it shouldn't. It's a decade ago...

It's explained at the end of post #7 and there is a picture of the tool. (It is laying there together with the Mitutoyo caliper.

I'm sanding the frame. Or, more precisely, I should be. But I kind of got bored a bit, 'cos it takes so long.. So I'm basically waiting for the motivation bar to fill back up. :D

Let's See One of Your First Mt. Bikes

I have a build thread reminiscing about my first Mountainbike here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/tribute-to-my-very-first-mountainbike-a-wheeler-313.428732/ My second mtb, which was the first "build" I ever made, is a Hercules Titanal. I still own it.

    1996 GT LTS-2

@d333gs About the shocks. The frame came with a DNM firestarter DV-22 in 135mm. But my LTS Thermoplast, that has the exact same rear end geometry came with a RS Deluxe in 140mm. So there you go.

    1996 GT LTS-2

Today it's sanding and polishing. I'm motivated now, but I already know that'll change after one and a half tubes... So I have a fresh set of decals as a motivational. :D There is one deeper scratch on the top tube. What would you guys do? Sand it smooth or leave it? Pro: Better looks...
