So i have one of those SCR's (i think some OCR's are the same) with the really bizarre headset.
It HAD to have been easier to spec' the frame with a standard 1 1/8 semi-integrated headset, but don't get me started.....
The recommended repacement is a piece of (caged bearing) junk - the only...
Many thanks for the replies - much appreciated.
Just goes to show - an odd comment here or there can tip the balance in the right direction.
The words 'spacers' (foz) and 'shorter' (Stressed) did the trick.
Think i was kind of tunnel vision on the assembled part being the DS, but it wasn't.
Thanks for the reply.
It's a good point about the spacers - which suggests the assembled side is the NDS.
When i put it together if just 'feels' better like that.
It's looking like the DS came undone when i disassembled the hub.....
So i did that thing.....
Took a hub apart for servicing and am now in a quandry as to how it goes back together.
The cones and lock nuts are different, the axle threads are the same length on both sides, bearings are the same size both sides.
Instinctively, i want to put the side that's still...
Just thought i should round this out with the news that the rear derailleur went back together really easily
I was so surprised i took it apart and out it back together again several times.
She's back on the bike and working like a dream :)
I'm bemused as to how it happened in the...
Confirmed - 2mm allen key to get the pin out of this mech' (thanks Fluffy Chicken).
Remarkably, it all appears to be intact - even the little O ring has plenty of bounce.
It was pretty grotty when i opened it, but having given it a bit of a clean, it might :| just go back together.....
Ok, let me see if i can get this one apart, otherwise i'll take it.
The notch/stop (yellow) seems ok to me?
The pin (red) is what i need to remove in order to inspect the spring?
Hmmm.....the question is.....how?
I fear i have already started butchering it
Many thanks for the help.
I'll have a go at getting it apart :?
Otherwise, i'll definitely be in the market for a replacement.
How much do you want for yours d8mok - hope it's not too rude to ask publicly :|
Gentle ride and the gears start making that ticking sound which means cable tension needs to be adjusted.
On completing the ride, i notice that my chain is super slack
I 'muck about' with the gears for a while and manage to achieve all gears - but i have to remove 2 links from the chain...
Really appreciate the in-depth help.
It all sounds incredibly 'yuk' :?
I like external bottom brackets :)
And cartridge bearings - hence my hatred of JIS headsets :x
I'm going off this bike more by the second.
Apologies if it's not a classic in the true sense, but this seemed the best place to ask.
This has a 1'' headset - the question is whether it is more likely to be ISO sizing :D .....or JIS sizing :x
If anyone could shed any light on the matter, i would be incredibly grateful.
I asked Certini...
Many thanks Magpiegifts.
Honestly, i'm coming to the conclusion that i think i never really 'got past' the fact that nobody seemed able to accurately identify what an inch was.
ISO, JIS, Raleigh, Campag, French, Italian.....and so on.
It can't have been that difficult.
The search for a set...
