I think the only time you see replaceable bosses is on aluminium frames as you need the canti boss to be steel. I'm happily riding a 1990 Marin frame as my tourer, which has now done 20+ years with Maguras without any boss problems.

It should have Dawes engraved in the seatstay caps. It looks like its powdercoated, which Dawes didn't do. I'm not convinced it's a Dawes.

Just measured, slack they are 26" round (13" flat) at the waist with no stretch, so that seems like 28" waist to me.

Certainly there are also transition models - clearly they evolved stuff with small differences between production batches. My P7 has 96 decals (round orange script) and date code but a canti hanger like a 95. So I agree, it may well be some kind of halfway model.

I agree, not sure the sleeved seat tube is right for a P7.
