2008 Scott Scale Limited - a bona fide superbike from back then

Hi folks,

I acquired this after I saw it on eBay, again.
That site will bankrupt me! But, after very little haggling i secured it at a comfortable price. I think it was on here for an exorbitant asking price for a while. I’ve not seen many others.

The part strip down commenced almost immediately and I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of some of the components.

The seller told me that it was regularly serviced and cleaned but on closer inspection I knew it needed something more. So I set about it.

What I’ve done so far-
-although the brakes worked ok I removed them as the oxidation here and there didn’t appeal
-full degrease and replacement of chainrings, cassette, chain, BB - they were filthy
-rear mech clean up - it’s a 20th anniversary black box number and is very light and tidy
- old grips have been removed and binned
- new larger tyres on the way
- alternative black superlight san Marco skin saddle in the way from Italy- the white one gives me a headache just looking at it

To do or what to do?
The fork is beautiful but needs a new lock out. I haven’t found anyone to service it yet. TF Tuned don’t service the 28.6mm keg size fork as they don’t have the seals. What to do? I thought about replacing for a 470mm a-c carbon rigid and lighten it up even more. It was at 8.5kg sans pedals before I started work and there’s scope to shed more.

So far it’s a stunner in any event and to think it was £7k in ‘08. Mental!

More to come.

Update on this rocket ship.

Full clean up and degrease then regrease all threads.

New jockeys and complete clean of the rear mech.

PACE RC31 in very good condition. Long axle to crown (445/450mm ish). I can never get the exact measurements but I think long enough to take account of the OEM 470mm DT Swiss sus fork. Ive been lucky as a mate offered them to me when I was actually looking to remove the susser. Keeping the DTSwiss fork aside for now as no one is interested to service them following a few phone calls. Any suggestions would be great. TF Tuned can’t do it which was surprise.

New front tyre and VVGC rear.

Used VVGC saddle.

Very special brakes to come and some finishing kit.

VVGC used chainrings on the way.

Hubs are a little oxidised and are aesthetically lacking but spin well. May get them replaced at a later date.

It’s looking a lot better and weighs 7.4kg at present so it’s going to be light.

As ever, more updates to come.

Probably. I’m sure there are other light frames but I’m sure I saw a build where the owner claims and weight of 6kg or something equally impressive but he’d done x1 chainring. I’m not sure I’ll go that way.

This is the Scale i was thinking of and probably the one you are referring to. I remember following the build and it was madness. God knows how much it was worth/cost!?! . Haven't a clue about these bikes and wondered if your frame was the same base he started with or if there are different scale frames.

Weightweenies was worth following once. Loads of shed engineering and getting one off bits made. Now it is mostly plug and play and just buying stuff. No home engineering any more.
