Am I so out of touch with modern cycling?

I was lucky enough to be out today and the three cyclists I saw were in distinct categories

1. The classic All Black. Everything black, even on a grey low light day it was all black, no smile, no nod, no lights just black EVERYTHING

2. The 'I bought everything Halfords recommended and then some and went back for more' . A youngish lady with helmet askew, snood, jacket, gloves, leggings, shoes, glasses, all the kit but really struggling on some sort of step through Pendleton 'ladies' bike that creaked and rattled its way along

3. The middle aged 'I've read everything on the internet so it must be right!' - new bike with discs (rubbing) and a very long headtube, helmet too far back, headscarf, amber lense glasses, all the clothing that 12c needs, new shoes and looking like he was enjoying every minute of it - if sweating and grimacing is the new way of enjoying something

4. This pillock

i tend to wear, what period im riding, if its my 61 or 84 superbe, its a bit of tweed or a shooting jacket, if its my maverick or mk1 mirage the shell suit comes out, my mtrax or ogre, just jeans n stuff, if its my triumph twenty shopper or raleigh stowaway, its generally stockings and a gym skirt 🤔😂🤣lol ha ha had you then lol 😂

I have a similar approach.

Revisiting this post and whatever mood I was in when I wrote it. I guess it's more to do with if you are not in 'proper' cycling gear, then you are clearly not serious.

Listen here you folk, I spent a whole £1 on my spd shoes I'll have you know, Shimanos finest! Anything more would be a reckless show of exuberance

My t-shirt does have a picture of a bicycle on it though

Whilst out on my bike the other day [you know cycling] I came across a friend who was manager at a well known local bike shop .
Looking at my bike he said " I see you have crossed to the dark side " observing my disc brakes. I replied" not really....l can now stop before I get there ".

<tilts head in royalty mock sympathy pose>

Were your brakes so badly set up before that?

I ride, (no, I really do), disc and various other options. Discs are certainly not new, and definitely not a panacea for all braking problems. Well set up brakes generally are though, and there are plenty valid arguments for rims and drums. I prefer rim screeching, which is now available via the NHS.
