Today's Ride

About 25°C, light winds, 60 miles: base to Sandwich, then round on the Viking Coastal Trail through Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate, Herne Bay, Whitstable, then over the Crab and Winkle Way back to base. Plenty of fluids and food consumed en route: Waitrose cherry and almond slices are highly recommended. Lovely day riding.

Took Friday off and before a wonderful walk to Sennen for pastys and pints, I got a 20 miler in early doors. Here's the drop down and out of Kelynack back to HQ. I really like this ramp to finish off a leg stretch.

Saturday was nothing short of mind-blowing. I appreciate you may not want to read the following, so if you're of a nervous, blinkered disposition, look away now.

The planets aligned and I rode the new 2022 Hei Hei CR/DL for the first time. It was up there, almost (!), with riding a bike for the first time, falling in love for the first time, getting married or jumping out of an airplane. What an experience, and suffice to say, I couldn't help myself and go again yesterday. So the pics are from both days, both with blood, lots of dust but smiles for miles. Once impassable, rim busting, OTB trails, are no match for the beast. I just need to recalibrate my riding brain and get over the F.E.A.R. Both afternoons were just under 20 degrees, but glorious, unfiltered sunshine, so sufficiently golden brown now. N/NNE breeze kept things relatively cool, and for once was very welcome on the peaks after some unnecessary climbing (well, I've got to test how well is goes up and well as down ;) ).

Nice how did you get the blood?!

I still have the remains of stitches in my hand from first and final attempts at MTB.

So you crashed twice or once? Trying to make sense of whether you rode just once, or book-ended your riding career with the same injury.

Saturday and today were branch slaps, Sunday was a stack. You know you're with the right partner in crime when they ask if the bike was ok before asking how you are 👌

Blue skies and golden sunshine all along the way. Stiff NE/NNE breeze, felt 15/16. No excuses now to shred. I went up 2 ramps that were impassable on the fleet...until now. This thing will be the end of me and it's brilliant

My only complaints are the grips - far too skinny, and saddle - far too flexy. So ODIs and a the obligatory Flite are on their way.

Blue skies and golden sunshine all along the way. 15-17 depending on being in and out of valleys. Much less breeze, still from the NE. I decided to wean myself off the 29er drug for a day or two and reverted to good old skinny tyres and 2*. Really cracking ride around Penwith.

At the top of Gear Hill before the drop down towards big town.

Going to be in the mid 30's again today so headed out early this morning to avoid the heat, still quite warm at 8 though.

Went for a quick loop along and around three disused railway tracks, on a good day, flat out i can do the loop in an hour, quite a bit longer today but relatively easy going. The middle track that connects the two others is on a slight incline along its 3 mile length, going down like i did today you can ride in top gear and fast all the way along feeling like a hero, bonus feature of being in the shade all the way too. To spice the trails up the council has not put jumps and berms on like some of the others around here, instead opting for a more hardcore killer Bee section

With it being early, pre work for some, there were a lot of dog walkers out but most were pleasant. Apart from that i only saw one other cyclist and one horse.

A nice ride and probably going to have to do it a few more times this week as the temperatures are looking like they are staying in the 30's until the weekend at least.
