1992 GT - First restoration and a lot of missing parts

Hi Jaychen,
I would have have some Shimano U-brakes here somewhere, you are welcome to them. Plus a fair bit of period correct stuff for the GT. I'm in Melbourne.

This is great to hear. I really want to keep the bike as original as possible. How do I get in touch with you?

I made some progress. Finished prepping it for powdercoating -

I'm usually pretty good about buying parts but being new to bikes and really having no idea what the **** im looking for, i pretty much got swindled. Local guy who seemed like a genuine bloke sold me a bunch of stuff (and some stuff I didn't even really want to be honest) and it arrived this week. A lot of it's junk. Not sure what to do... might just bin it all.

I have built many cars and I like to take pride in what I build. I don't consider any of the parts worth of being on the bike.

Send me a private message and we can continue on from there.
Unfortunately I need to have 30 posts before I can send private messages - might be a while. Maybe you can send me one with your email and I can contact you directly?
wow you actually stripped it down to bare metal
Is this not the best way to do things with bikes? I figured if i wanted a really good finish on the paint, bare metal was the only way forward

I meant that a lot of people wouldn't bother doing it down to bare metal.
It's fine that you have done that.
What did you use to do it? You've made a great job

I used a mixture of wire wheel, sandpaper, paint stripper and elbow grease. Probably took 10hrs in total.

Making some headway although I'm slightly stumped with brake pads.

Front brakes are original canti and the rear will remain U brake.

Planning to use these on the fronts (KOOLSTOP EAGLE 2 CANTI BRAKE PADS) :

As for the rears, I'm stumped.

Can anyone shed some light on what pads will fit the Shimano Exage BR-M452?

It looks the same as below!

You'll likley need a "threaded" pad for the U-brake. I like using KoolStop "Vans" pads on U-brakes. They're threaded and look pretty cool, Plus available in a couple of colours.
