Since you ask Mark,

My understanding is that it was made by TST for Kona to be raffled at the Interbike trade show in 1998, and a shop owner won it. I'm not sure how many were made. The Ti Single Speed Sliding Dropouts look a bit provisionary, but they do slip nicely into the Bullet Ends.

You'll notice that the Cable Stops are unique, with none for the Gears, and just a couple of single Brake Stops on the Top Tube - 1998 Hei Hei have the triple Top Tube arrangement

I would say by the dropouts it is a TST frame, have you any idea on the serial number? and do you know of the reason behind making the frame in the first place? wonder if it was intended to go into production, maybe they were gauging interest at the show, would be interesting to find out more about it, it is very nice indeed, thank you for posting it mate

Sadly I do not know the Serial Number, but it should be KH17###. It was outed on this site over 12 years ago when it came up for sale on e-Bay in the U.S., and was just before I joined here. Nobody knew anything about it - not even Anthony. The buyer, also in the States was a one time poster on here - see the 3 page thread below.

Some of the pictures that I have on file were discovered after searching on the Internet.

My dream bike is still a Hei Hei, but the very rare disk mount version that was around briefly in late '99 I believe. I seem to remember reading on here there were some late season frames made with disk tabs on.

Here’s my 1990 Explosif. It has an 89 frame number but is clearly a 90 . I thought that it’d had a respray but the paint job is/was a very good one and there is no other coloured overspray on the fork steerer which is making me wonder if it could be the original colour. Clearly the decals aren’t original.
