I've just come across these thumbies on an old bike and really like the look of them. They're friction only and shift very smoothly.

Can anyone help with the age and model type - they look very early, and similar to road bike down-tube shifters.

Are they Power Shift Microlites from early 80s?

Its OK, I've answered my own question after a bit of internet searching - http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx? ... 6&Enum=104

They're an XC LD-2800 - 1983-85

MMM 8)

Same mounts and internals as the beautiful XC 1985 ones that superceded them, just even more retro:

I've been using a set on and off for 25 years without any trouble at all.

All the best,
