And before anyone chips in on the the brake cable clamping bodged from a random bolt and v brake shoe spacers, I was desperate, it was late, the parts bin was not forthcoming...although that was about a year ago now, mind...

Lucky for you I have no standards and was more interested in the outcome for MrMrs. Slimes. You could be riding a bicycle made out of cardboard and duct tape and I'd still be impressed.

I love how neurotic we are, I always get a nervous breakdown taking a picture of my bikes in case someone defecate on the floor in protest over a kinked brake wire.

My retro bikes get tucked away in deep winter. Then it's time For Fast and simple, with the essential mud guards. And waterproof spd boots of course...

Are the guards SKS Velo?

Same as for over 10 years: Kona Kaboom singlespeed with rigid forks. Nothing to go wrong, minimal maintenance.

I use this because it is unstoppable in any conditions ... some times too much fun or mud but this is bullet proof.
