Which groupset for this 1975 Gazelle Champion Mondial?

Mr Cheese knows a lot!!! Although I have not seen him on line for a few weeks.

Compiling all the info is a big task and you have done a great job so far. I was asked to swap my orange frame for a white one which had paintwork in better condition, I am glad I didn't now.

Enfin, two years later…

Enfin, two years later… I finally built the pale-gold A-frame. Went for the Zeus option, although different from the initial composition. Since the post two years ago I got a Zeus Criterium world logo crankset, world logo front derailleur en older Zeus Gran Sport shifters. Rather than the late seventies oval logo parts these world logo pieces are all early seventies as far as I know (see here). I think it matches the rather classic appearance of the frame better.

Brakes are Mafac Competition instead of Zeus 2000 as the Zeus brakes were only ever available with allen key fitting. Moreover, I find the Competitions particularly elegant brakes. The wheels are built with Super Champion tubular rims on Zeus Gigante high flange hubs and the pedals are Zeus Gran Sport.

The dark green cables and cotton bar tape proved far more difficult to get hold of than initially anticipated. Velox Tressostar and Newbaum's were just a bit too blueish respectively too light green and I could not find matching cables. At the latest Stalen Ros jumble I ran into some vintage Guidoline bar tape and new old stock cable that I think look good. The Guidoline tape was a bit sticky on the outside as well as the inside so I used a thin layer of shellac to seal it off. Still need to find a pair of dark green toe clip straps to finish it.

I like it when someone finishes an old thread looks very nice the components sit well on the frame and the bar tape and cables set it off nicely and thanks for your website it has helped me and my brother no end he has a 1978 753 Gazelle Champion Mondial

French spin-off

Thanks! Good to hear that the site is useful. Any pictures of the 753?

As a matter of fact this thread may even get its own spin-off thread, loosely based on the French groupset option. Still need to lace the wheels but here's a sneak preview:
