Bit of a difference today, as after two weeks off the bike due to the bl**dy coughing bug that 'everyone has had', I finally got the chance to try out my Trek 830 which I am converting into a touring bike.

Changes have been minimal, tyres, cassette, saddle, bar ends and foam grips, chain, cranks and pedals.

My first impression is that it rides very well, climbing is pretty easy with plenty of gears to spare, so hopefully I will be able to tackle sensible hills when loaded.

Saw a few other cyclists while I was out. The blokes either looked amused or stunned and the two female riders I saw completely blanked me, clearly I am not a 'proper' cyclist on a mtb. :mrgreen:

Weston sea front and Birnbeck Pier.

Half way up Roman Road.

And a little bit of the Strawberry Line for good measure.

Not far, only 25 miles, but my average speed was only 2kph slower than my usual average on a roadbike. :shock:

Hmmm, possibly, I've been watching all sorts for the past couple of weeks.

I got some Vaude back panniers from a nice young lady in Bristol this morning for £25 the pair. :shock:

Only a couple of hours today. Spent most of the last month either coughing, sneezing or looking after vomiting children.

The 20 cm of fresh powder everywhere made the going rather slow.......

I have to say, that pier looks very precarious! :shock:

Don't take blanking personally. I get it quite a lot, even out on a road bike, passing other roadies :roll:

The pier is on the point of falling into the sea and is so unsafe that the RNLI have moved the lifeboat station to another part of the bay, it's not as good a launch point, but at least the Lifeboat crew can get to the boat without the danger of falling into the sea. There is a local fund to try and raise enough money to save the pier, I think they set it up about 20 years too late.

Mind, a big lump of Clevedon pier fell down, and they got the money together to completely restore it, so you never know.

Ohhh I have been ignored plenty of times in the past Mike, I am not offended, more amused.

Right, saddle has been changed for a Charge Spoon, brake levers moved down a touch and the shifters tightened after one of them came loose mid ride.... well, it was a shakedown ride.
