I'm one of those that tries to spend as little as possible but still tries to get the best results regardless

These have been quite fun at 99p plus postage:

These were also 99p - well built, charge off a phone charger and have survived Fenland damp

A note on the chargers - throw them in the bin and buy a decent one from the UK.

Just under £30 for the pair (without all the homemade stuff)

I stripped them (both batteries and lights) down to shorten the wires and was quite surprised by the quality of the assembly. I didn't trust my soldering skills to make the connections to the boards inside the lights (I was surprised at the amount of electronics) so I took them to the electronics dude at work - he was quite complimentary too !
