THROWBACK THURSDAY: 1993 MANITOU SYSTEM FS REVIEW - Mountain Bike Action Magazine

We decided to visit the Answer facility to take a look at a pre-production ’93 Manitou suspension bike and find out just what Answer would be offering.

Stem cap wasn’t sitting right so figured I’d inspect the steerer.

WTF!?

I didn’t even know this could work definitely needs the crown and steerer replacing now FFS!

I know right? You’d think the headset would be a huge ass frickin clue

So my options with the front end were to replace the King headset and Manitou stem with threadless versions - or find an ahead M2 steerer and crown. I figured the latter would be easier.

Didn’t have much joy on the forum but found a random one in a box at home

Stem had obviously been over tightened to get it to clamp on the threaded steeerer because there was no way the stem was going to fit my ahead one

About 3 hours of sanding later - success

I also switched out the clear ATi waffle grips for Oury. The clear grips actually looked pretty good, but I think the Oury in black look a lot classier.

Couldn’t help myself this bike is so pretty it needed the Critical Racing upgrade.
And some 3DV Mojo hangers to finish it off.
