Recommend a chain tool

You won’t regret it, great design. I can comfortably hold a chain together and this tool with my left and tighten with my right. and if required its hex shaped main body is obviously perfect for a spanner.

My lad breaking his first chain with it when he was 10... that chain was nearly 50 years old!
