I'd got to around 77 from research, but that pre dates the present colour scheme by at least 4 years, so it must have been painted at some point, although I doubt Nottingham would have used the new style 753 decal...

Nice find! For the date, I'd say '77. I've had a look at the bikes on the Yahoo group and all the '78 bikes appear to be very high end SB1900+ or SB2000+

Also, your rear dropouts are drilled but the RH dropout doesn't seem to have the 2 additional drillings for the portacenta fitting - this fitting came out some time in 77. All the '78 bikes I've seen have the portacenta drillings. It's too late an SB number to be a '76

Silver will make it look like a Carlton Pro IMHO, gold us a more SBDU colour
