I've ended up in almost exactly the same place!
1979 Witcomb with mid-90s Campag bits.

I'm riding the frame for the winter before deciding whether it's a keeper and to repaint.

Spooky. I kept mine for 18 months before deciding it was a keeper and sending it off for some seriously good loving.

Re:

My Raleigh 1984 Gran Course (frame bought at a car boot sale for £4, just needed painting). Its loaded with a the modern day goodies that I wanted to make it very special, to me anyway. Pleasure to ride, very comfortable and has a very good turn of speed.

All I had to do was widen the rear dropout width the accommodate the 11 speed Athena sprocket, then fit all the matching components.

I'm very shorthly going to change the mechs and shifters on my Merckx Corsa Extra to 6600 from 6400 Ultegra
The shape of the tops on the 6400 is not comfortable now I've been spoiled by modern bikes and I would really like 11-28 given how hilly it is where I live.

The parts will come from my 2004 Wilier which is being changed to full 6800 Ultegra.

Changing my bikes to give me a bit more comfort and allow me to ride them more, that's what it's all about isn't it?

I'll bump this! 1997 Lapierre 24 Carot Titane newly brushed with some subtle beaded decals. Chorus 11sp with Neutron Ultra wheels and a Thomson cockpit and retro Syncros Ti Seatpost and Arione saddle plus a King headset (obviously). :D
