Its just a self adhesiveflexible magnetic strip like the ones you got at school to put on drawers. You can buy it on ebay for pennies.
Lumpy

Take a NEW stanley blade just the blade, not in a knife. and holding at a slight angle push it across the top slicing off the lumpy bits.
The wider blade is guided by the solid part of the piston so it cuts it completely flush. Maybe even a slight back and forth slicing action, but use the sides as the guide and keep the angle low.
Mind those fingers on the pointed edges when holding. Might want to wipe them on a stone to knock out the needle point. On the edges only obviously
Its swollen up, probably from hydraulic fluid leakage, road grease, something like that but anyway all it does is swell it and slicing off the proud bits makes it pretty much good as.
