Get a Lotus Eleven replica from Westfield. I took the demo out last summer for the afternoon and event with a warm A-series engine it was seriously good fun. I'm hoping to order one this year and I have a Coventry Climax to put in it. Very pretty car. I will find the link for you.

how do the front wheels turn from side to side in that car? :? 3 point turns look out of the question

Steering lock was about the same as a Midget or anything of that era. Front wheels are quite inboard in comparison with the bodywork. I found the easiest way to do it was a quick look over the shoulder, a bit of lock, 3500rpm and just drop the clutch- it whipped round in a cloud of smoke in a split second.
