Help thinking of buying a Carrera road bike! £269 any good??

Re: Help thinking of buying a Carrea road bike! £269 any goo

buy MTB pedals, and use them on both. MTB shoes too, as you can walk in them, you'll struggle in road ones. I know this is against "the rules" but it is practical for someone in your situation

I think shimano spd are the same, you can even get some which are a bit more friendly to walk in.kind of like a trainer with a cleat in the bottom. I personally ride TIME pedals ,I would avoid them as while they are excellent to ride in walking is a art form :D

+1 on the shimano SPD as the do it all pedal - I only changed my roady over to SPD-SL (road type SPD) as got into a bit of racing and wanted to look the part

Excellent advise all, 2x SPD's, cleats and shoes on order!

Done five miles on it today and found one problem, run out of gears! spinning pedals like a nutter down the hills, not surprising really as I run a 48t chainring on my MTB. Taller gearing needed!

Will keep you all up to date.

Thanks

Strange, compact gearing on road bikes means you have a 50 tooth outer chain ring, and with most road cassettes having an 11 or 12 tooth small cog, it is usually pretty hard to run out of gears.

Still, gives you something to tinker with.

Re: Help thinking of buying a Carrera road bike! £269 any go

Yes bike has 50 on the front but only 13 on the back. I have 48 and 11 on my
MTB.

I will ride the bike a few more times to try and work out what gearing is needed.

handlebars are a little low so I'm going to flip the stem too.

onwards!

But the Rules trump practicality on all occasions.

I know  but it shouldn't get in the way of newbies.

Oh yeah, no peaked helmet when on road bike ;)
