I'm shocked!!!!

You've found a bike that looks good with three spoke carbon wheels!

Respect is due.

That doesn't even look bad. Way better than I expected.

Cheers, I always liked them, the Spengles also.
They indeed don't match with many bikes.

It will be black.
Cranks also, I'm not sure yet what to choose, black M730 or something like Middleburn.
If it were mine, I'd go with alloy finish Middleburn cranks, to tie in with the hubs, rims and mechs, then fit black chain rings.

Or black Raceface Turbines and chain rings like I have on my DeKerf Mountain. They have that tough, engineered look about them.

I would also change the skewers to either black or silver, but that's just because I don't like ano purple. ;)

Re: Hartmann RAM '92 [carbon wheels page 3]

I like it better with silver rings and black cranks when the frame is black.
And espacially as the rings are Mavic I want to keep them.

The skewers came with the wheels, they are going to be changed for sure :)

Re: Hartmann RAM '92 [carbon wheels page 3]

I bought a mint condition Mavic dakar wheelset to continue the Mavic theme.
I love these wheels, but am afraid they are not period.
These were late 80's iirc?
I will make some pics when they arrive.

Re: Hartmann RAM '92 [Mavic Gao Dakar wheels page 4]

I really prefer the Mavic wheelset.
These hubs were made from the end of the 80ies to the beginning of 90ies.
But, if your rims are M231, they would be 91, 92.
Important : check the rear length of the axle : you really need 135mm and 7s screwed cassette !
You have to find the Mavic headset now

Re: Hartmann RAM '92 [Mavic Gao Dakar wheels page 4]

The rims are 261, so same area as 231 making it period correct for a '92 build?
I do prefer these to the carbon ones as well I think, I can't wait to see how it looks.
Allthough I think the carbon ones suit it very well to imo.
The headsets are pretty hard to find, so if someone has one in 11/8" please let me know.
I also found black M730 cranks, M-090 STI's, black SLR canti's and a 150mm Controltech stem.
Just need a nice seatpost, Flite and pedals to finish the build.

I'm thinking of stripping the whole bike first, get some new decals, sanding it and give it a new clear paint job.

I think it would look smashing when looking like new.

Re: Hartmann RAM '92 [Mavic Gao Dakar wheels page 4]

This little beauty arrived this week very pleased with it as it is in very good condition.

Still need to find time to dismantle the whole bike and give it a new clear coat.
