1991 Saracen Tufftrax Extreme

actually, to me the blue fork looks even better as the original one with same color as the frame.
There is also a bit of similar dark blue in the decals.

Overall, i think especially the fresh and bulky colors and great decals style make this one a bit standing out of crowd, especially nowadays.
It looks a bit like putting a few different colored LEGO Birks together... Love it 😍

Personally i would try to add maybe not too much but at least one more similar blue piece. Maybe the stem should be similar blue too?
The lego part made me laugh😂 the colour scheme reminds me of the harlequin golf that VW made in the mid 90s.

I know what your saying about the forks, I mean if saracen made them that way then people would have the opposite opinion on them.
I don't mind the blue but I feel like they are a bit much, I'm still in two minds whether to paint them black. The only blue that shade on the bike is a bit of lettering, the rest of the blue on the frame is more of a light blue turquoise kind of colour.

I am going to be ditching the Amber wall tyres for some normal black ones, which I'm thinking will tone it down a bit and the forks might be better suited. I may throw some more anodised bits on it too

Had a dig through my old stuff in the attic of my folks house, and I've found a couple xt goodies that may as well have a home on the saracen. I think I bought these for a zaskar I was building 10 years ago, initially wanting an m735 groupset, but then switched to an m737 setup instead.

I opted for the m730 pedals over 735 because I prefer the chunker cages over the slimmer m735 ones

I've been after a donor bike for some upgraded parts to put on the saracen. I came across two 80s bikes being sold as a pair. Bought them both, but the one I'm really interested in is the carrera quattro comp, which im assuming at this point is an '89.

Met the seller and he says he's had both since new, and they've been in storage for many years. The carrera is in fantastic original condition, such that it would almost be a shame if I stripped it. Full XT, Reynolds 531 etc... Seller told me if I sent a picture of it restored it might even bring a tear to his eye, which doesn't help! Damn sentimental value 😆 (but its too big for me anyhow)

Right then, some pics...

Definitely not a donor bike! Looks already great 😍 and may just need cleaning and some tweaks.

Saracen and the 'donor' ...and the interesting 80s peugeot triathalon that I picked up with the carrera. Looks like these 2 have only seen the outdoors a handful of times

*edit: I decided that the carraera was too original to split, so it's been sold and gone to a good home. I'm back to the drawing board in a way, but will stick with some of the 400gs groupset I expect, instead of upgrading for the sake of upgrading with no real reason
