Those cables are really a pain if the guides slip out of place. I used a magnet to pull the rear brake through on mine. Basically I fed the cable in the front till it hit the back then put a needle magnet (a 2mm x 12inch magnetized rod) in the back hole and hope to god my hand was steady enough to pull the cable out. It took me a few tries but was way more successful than my earlier blind attempts.
As for the fork take your time, any Rock Shox arch should fit but the mounting screws are 9.4cm apart c-c in case you need measurements.
