Father & Son build CB Full carbon Strada & Torino (circa 2005-2012)

And it’s finished, well the “Father” build is at least.
Originally weighing in at 20lb 8oz or 9.29kg, she’s now an exact 17lb or 7.66kg
So a 1630g loss has exceeded my expectations & to be honest it really wouldn’t take much to get it down to 7kg, with the saddle, old school pedals and fork all a bit on the heavy side.
Saying that it would obviously be more beneficial for me to lose a little more!

Here’s some photos, I’ll do a spec sheet this evening.

Nice shows how much a decent groupset reduces weight!

I have tiagra and is really heavy.
In Shimano hierarchy the biggest weight loss is between 105 and ultegra. Ultegra is nearer dura ace and 105 nearer tiagra.

Don't know about campy. Looks good. I'm guessing the chainset is really light?

Cheers James

Now then, the 22" Torino was all well and good, but I have to admit as some have already suggested that it's probably to small. after 20 miles im feeling a bit bunched up & although I tried having the saddle all the way back my knees didn't like it...

Then I noticed that the charity bike people at Street Bikes, Kirklees West Yorkshire ('udersfield tha knows) had an older Strada from 2005 that looked a bit leggy, a quick email confirmed its the larger 23" job so I popped over on Monday to have a sit on it.
Pretty much everything on it had been changed including the forks, the only parts being original were the ITM stem & bars.
Anyway, a cash deal was done, everyone's happy.

New plan;
23" 2005 3K Strada for me
22" 2012 12K Torino for the boy @JimBobBurt
Spare 22" 2009 12K Strada will get built up to be a more complete frame set then pushed on.

Well done nice buy!!

Will you bling it out with record?

Cheers James
Yup the Super Record is coming with me.
As for the Torino, I’ve made a lot of sales recently on eBay so I’m treating the boy to a brand new 11sp Centaur group that I got discounted, just needs some choice Chorus bits (BB cups & a cassette) to complete the group.

A nice little extra with this new larger frame was a Selle Italia SLR carbon with titanium tubular rails, from 2006 & weighing in at 140g (135g stated) it of course needed a little Peachyfication and I think certainly worth it (there’s a NIB on the Bay at £155)
Here’s the expected before & afters;

After a 'heavy' evening previously, I do believe I may have overcome your 7 kilo optimum in night soil on more that one occasion.

Peter Kay Esq conveyed similar sentiment a little more succinctly.

Now then, seeing as this thread has a proper home I guess I’d better post an update!
These bikes kept me quite busy during February, initially with a bit of selling off of parts to fund some of the quality.
The initial plan was to upgrade the taller 2005 Strada for me and tweak the 2012 Torino for the lad.
This was duly done producing a very tidy sub 7kg Strada for me and an 8kg Torino for the lad.
Lots of tweaking, renovation & repair took place which I would normally have photoed and posted but I wanted wait to see where the thread would live.
Anyway, after completing them we had a cracking test ride (about 30miles) with the club and all went very well.
So, what to do with the leftover junk and 2010 Strada 3k frame? Well I thought an all weather hack might be good idea. So with a mix of components from the other two and a sprinkling of spares I now have a 9kg puddle splasher!

The 2005 6.5kg Strada
