Made the foolish mistake of trying to run a new chain with a used cassette which lead to much slipping! Rather annoying for a xt cassette to only last 6months (2 of those with little use).

So ordered this:

can you even fit a sheet of paper between the big ring and the chainstay there Chris?? looks tighter than a ducks bum!

The middle 36t is about 3mm from the chainstay. The closeness to the outer ring is an old bit of inner tube wrapped around it currently. It is rather close.

Got some self amalgamating tape from work to try on it which will hopefully gain me a fraction more room lol.

If that's hollowtch (and you have the spacers?) surely you will be able to just move the drive crank outboard a couple of mil, for a fraction more clearance?

What benefit would be had by having 2mm more clearance?

That'll be fine. My cranks run pretty close to the chainstays because of the inner tube that I put on it.

Chain and cassette look very nice and clean! I've always found Sram cassettes last pretty well, not sure they're quite as smooth shifting as Shimano butmy last one just kept on going...and going.

Yea, I work on the principal that if its tight to the chainstay then at least there's less chance of the chain getting jammed between them! May just get a little tap to the underside if it even try's to suck the chain up.

Yea the SRAM cassettes are very 'bling' lol. Sure it won't last given a few weeks/months use. Looks good for a start though lol.

Looking good! Forgive me I've just scanned the posts whilst looking at the pics, how long is the fork your running? Looks about 130? Any chance you could measure the wheelbase? Axle to axle? Oh and if anyone has one running a 150 fork I'd be interested to hear that length too! Sorry for the slight hijack

They're 140mm pikes. Although I've found for the xc type use its currently for it handles the ups far better with them wound down to 120mm.

All measurements using 18" frame with 140mm pike and measured qr to qr using my trusty b&q tape measure

95mm travel = 1108mm
120mm = 1115mm
140mm = 1120mm

Obviously this is just a rough guide and measurements not 100% accurate or probably even consistent lol.
